The Specialised Master in Nanotechnology is an interuniversity master jointly organised by the following five universities: Université catholique de Louvain (UCLouvain) in Louvain-la-Neuve, Université libre de Bruxelles (ULB) in Brussels, Liège Université (ULiège) in Liège, Université de Mons (UMONS) in Mons, and Université de Namur (UNamur) in Namur. The Specialised Master in Nanotechnologies offers holders of a basic Master degree (obtained after at least 300 credits (ECTS) studies) a specialised postgraduate education in the field of nanosciences and nanotechnologies (both in terms of experimental and theoretical approaches). It is intended for those who have not had any training in the field and wish to specialise in it, or for those who have already taken an option in this field during their basic Master's degree, and wish to complete their training with a specialisation in another field of nanotechnology. This Master offers the possibility of specialisation in one of the following three domains:
- nano-biotechnology,
- nano-electronics,
- nano-materials.
It is a 60 credits (ECTS) programme (one year programme). In this programme, students are exposed to the different approaches used in the field and thus become aware of the multidisciplinary aspect of nanotechnologies: knowledge of the fundamental phenomena at the nanoscopic scale, nanofabrication or synthesis of nanostructures, characterisation of nanostructures, as well as modelling or numerical simulation at the nanoscopic scale. In addition, students are made aware of the societal impacts of nanotechnologies through seminars on ethics, economic aspects, applications of nanotechnologies, toxicities of nanomaterials, etc. A research project is carried out in one of the laboratories of one of the five partner universities active in the field of nanotechnology.
